Four people have been arrested in connection with the kidnapping of an An Post worker's family and the theft of €600,000.

In August this year, two men, one armed with a handgun, forced their way into the man's home in Drogheda.

They took the man, his partner and daughter hostage and held them overnight.

The following morning, the man went into the post office in West Street in Drogheda and removed up to €600,000 in cash and left it at a drop off point.

His partner and baby daughter were subsequently released and found in Damastown in Dublin 15, hours later.

Three men and a woman, aged in their 20s and 30s, were arrested in a number of raids in the Dublin area this morning.

The four are being held at garda stations in Drogheda, Dundalk and Whitehall.
