A 23-year-old man charged with murdering a fellow Greystones man last year told gardaí twice that he did not mean to kill him, the Central Criminal Court has heard.

Thomas O'Connor, of Burnaby Heights in the Co Wicklow town, is accused of murdering John O'Brien of Burnaby Lawns on 4 June 2010.

Mr O'Connor has pleaded not guilty to committing the crime at Farrankelly Road, Greystones.

Prosecution Counsel Denis Vaughan Buckley told the court that Mr O’Brien died after he was hit on the head a number of times with a rock.
