Two men have been arrested in connection with a robbery in Charleville, Co Cork.

Two men entered a premises in Ballyhea at around 8.45am yesterday and threatened staff before leaving with a quantity of money.

The men, aged 48 and 25, were arrested when their car was stopped in Buttevant by gardaí a short time later. A sum of cash was also recovered.

The men are being detained in Mallow Garda Station.

Separately, a man has been arrested following an armed robbery at a supermarket in Sligo in which an employee was allegedly assaulted.

The incident happened on the Millcoach Road at around 10.30pm last night.

Two men armed with knives entered the supermarket and demanded cash. They escaped on foot with a quantity of money.

One man was later arrested following a pursuit by gardaí. He has since been released.
