Gardaí searching for a man who was attacked and kidnapped in Dublin believe he may have been abducted because of a drugs debt.

The 26-year-old has not been seen since he was bundled into a car in East Wall at around a 4.45pm yesterday.

Gardaí say they are very concerned for his safety.

They are also seeking information on a black Volkswagen with tinted windows and alloys used to take the man away.

House-to-house inquiries have been carried out on Russell Avenue in East Wall where the man was abducted.

A forensic examination identified blood at the scene and detectives are examining CCTV footage.

Three men pulled up the Volkswagen, and, after a chase, attacked and beat him with an iron bar before bundling him into the car and driving away.

Gardaí say the car had four doors, had an 05 Dublin registration and had a spider motif on back.

The victim is known to the gardaí and has a number of criminal convictions. He was single and from Blanchardstown area in the west of the city.

Detectives believe he was attacked because he owes money to a violent and dangerous criminal.
