An investigation is taking place into the attempted robbery of a post office in Ardagh village, Co Longford.
Two men entered the post office at 4pm, one carrying a bat and the other another implement.
The men demanded cash from the post mistress.
An alarm was activated shortly afterwards and the two men fled the scene empty handed.
Gardaí have appealed to the public for information concerning a small dark coloured hatchback car, seen in the area at the time of the incident.
