Gardaí in Co Kilkenny are searching for a number of people who raided the post office in Castlecomer early this morning.
The raiders drove a stolen JCB into the front of the post office.
The safe was removed from the premises but it is not yet known how much money was taken.
The JCB was taken overnight from Carlow.
Elsewhere, gardaí are investigating a raid on a shop and post office in Kill in Co Waterford this morning.
Two men entered the premises at 11.40am and a quantity of cash taken. One of the men had what was described as a shotgun.
There were a number of customers in the post office at the time but no one was injured.
Gardaí are appealing for witnesses or anyone who was in the area between 11am and midday and noticed anyone acting suspiciously to contact them.
In particular, they are looking for information about any dark-coloured car unusual to the area. Tramore Garda Station - 051 381333.
