A viable explosive device was discovered in Clondalkin in Dublin last night.
Gardaí were called to the scene at Greenfort Park at 10.45pm.
A number of houses were evacuated.
An Army Bomb Disposal Unit removed the device from the scene and carried out a controlled explosion on nearby waste ground.
Residents were able to return to their homes at around 2.30am.
Gardaí in Clondalkin are investigating.
