A man has been given a mandatory life sentence for the murder of his next door neighbour, after being found guilty by a jury at the Central Criminal Court in Limerick this evening.

Richard Higgins, aged 42, of New Houses, Lattin, had denied the murder of 29 year old Sean Murphy in a garden at his home following a fight on the night of the 17th of January, 2010.

The jury also found Higgins guilty on two counts of threatening to kill the victim and his partner.

Sentencing on these counts has been adjourned until the 28 of July.
