Armed gardaí backed up officials from Meath County Council today when they moved into a housing estate to remove a 'pet farm'.

The farm, which housed a number of small animals, was built on a site at Churchfields in Kentstown without planning permission.

The local authority tried to track down the owners of the farm, but no one was identified.

Instead, they sent letters to every house in the estate informing them of their plans to remove the structure.

This morning officials from the council moved in with support from members of the Regional Response Unit and unarmed gardaí.
