The Office of the Revenue Commissioners has said it is aware of a scam email being circulated in its name and has traced the site and asked for it to be shut down.

The email encourages people to click a link and enter their credit/debit card details.

Revenue said the scam in no way compromised its systems or security, but involved people using its logo to pretend the email has come from it.

Revenue said it never sends emails which require customers to send personal information via email or pop-up windows.

It advised customers who have sent information is to contact their bank or financial institution immediately.
