Gardaí have been asked to assist French police who are investigating the discovery of the bodies of a father and son found near the southern town of Perpignan last November.
Both men had been shot and their bodies were found dumped at separate locations.
It is thought the father was aged between 50 and 60, while the son was aged between 35 and 40.
The Department of Foreign Affairs has said the Irish Embassy in Paris is in touch with local police to follow up on the reports.
Gardaí say they are among a number of European police forces who have been asked to assist in identifying the bodies. They said there is no indication at this stage that the victims are Irish.
