Enda Kenny - Has not raised issue of judge's pensions with Department

The issue of judges' pensions has not been raised with the Department of Finance by Taoiseach Enda Kenny since he met with the Chief Justice late last month, according to a department spokeperson.

The issue was discussed by Chief Justice John Murray when the Taoiseach called to the Four Courts for a 'courtesy visit' on 21 April.

A senior judge has now been nominated by the judiciary to outline their concerns on the pension issue, according to a newspaper report.

The Department of Finance spokeperson said the recent Budget change to judges and other senior civil and public servants' pensions is an equity measure to ensure some of the best paid people in the country make a contribution to the State's finances.
