A Catholic priest serving in the Archdiocese of Tuam has been suspended from his ministry.
The priest is to be questioned in relation to what are being described by Church authorities in the diocese as 'child safeguard issues'.
Archbishop of Tuam Dr Michael Neary said in a statement that the allegation dated back to the 1980s.
The statement did not name the priest or the parish in which he is serving.
The allegation has been reported to gardaí, the HSE and the National Board for Safeguarding Children.
