A gang using a mechanical digger to raid a bank in Co Wicklow this morning failed to get away with any money.
The six-man gang used the digger to attempt to remove the machine from the bank in Tinahely at 5.45am.
The machine was well-secured in the Bank of Ireland and was not removed from the building, which was badly damaged.
It is believed the men left the scene in a dark-coloured car.
Gardaí in Baltinglass are investigating and have appealed for witnesses to contact them on 059 6482610.
They are particularly interested in speaking to anyone who may have seen the following vehicles: Black Mitsubishi Pajero (03 CN 712), Silver Toyota Landcruiser (06 KK 946) and a tractor and trailer unit (90 WX 4156).
All three vehicles had been stolen overnight in Carlow and Wexford.
The entire front wall of the building covering two rooms - one on the ground floor and another on the first floor - was ripped apart by the digger.
