Gardaí are questioning five people following the discovery of three cannabis growing facilities in Dublin and Cavan.

Almost 1,000 plants at various stages of growth were seized at industrial units in Inchicore and Parkwest in Dublin and Ballyconnell, Co Cavan

The seizures are part of Operation Nitrogen which is investigating an Asian organised crime group.

The four men and a woman are all believed to come from China.

Two men and woman were arrested after gardaí searched a warehouse in the Jamestown Business Park in Inchicore.

The men, aged 27 and 33, who were acting as gardeners in the growhouse, cultivating 500 cannabis plants with an estimated street value of over €200,000.

A second growhouse was found in an industrial unit at the Park West Enterprise Centre last and a man was arrested at the scene.

A further 270 plants estimated to be worth around €120,000 were found.

A man was also arrested after a third facility with 209 worth around €80,000 was found in Ballyconnell.

One of the five arrested is the subject of a deportation order. All five can be questioned for up to a week.
