One man has been arrested following an armed robbery in Killester, Co Dublin.

Two men, one armed with what appeared to be a handgun and the other armed with a hammer, entered the Supervalu in Killester and made threats to staff.

They left with a substantial amount of cash and were driven away from the scene by a third man in a red Citroen Saxo.

No shots were fired and no one injured during the course of the robbery.

The car was abandoned a short distance away on Gracefield Road.

After follow up investigations and searches a 27-year-old man was arrested in the back garden of a house on Mask Crescent.

He is being detained under section 30 of The Offences Against The State Act at Clontarf Garda Station.

All the money taken in the robbery has been recovered.
