Gardaí believe the skeletal remains found in a Tolka Valley Park in Finglas may be those of a woman.

An item of ladies clothing was found with the remains which were discovered at lunchtime in bushes at the base of an electricity pylon.

The discovery was made by a child seeking to retrieve a lost ball.

An initial examination of the remains was carried at the scene out by state pathologist Dr Marie Cassidy and further examination will take place after they are removed tomorrow.

Gardaí believe the remains may have been in the bushes for up to three years and they have not said so far how the person died.

They are considering whether the services of a forensic anthropologist might be required to help with identification and they are checking lists of missing persons in an effort to move their investigation forward.
