The final seats in the 31st Dáil have been filled following the conclusion of the recount in Galway West.

Éamon Ó Cuív of Fianna Fáil, Derek Nolan of Labour, Brian Walsh and Seán Kyne of Fine Gael and Independent Noel Grealish have now been confirmed as the representatives for Galway West.

Mr Kyne - the 165th and final TD to be elected - savoured victory shortly after 8am this morning.

It took 66 hours of counting over four days to confirm his election.

The Moycullen-based agricultural consultant was just 17 votes ahead of Catherine Connolly at the end of the first recount - the gap was exactly the same at the end of the second recount.

The final result contributes to Fine Gael's best performance in Galway in 20 years.

The conclusion of the count means that representation in the 31st Dáil will be: Fine Gael 76 seats; Labour 37; Fianna Fáil 20; Independents 15; Sinn Féin 14, Green Party 0 and Others 4.
