A 21-year-old Limerick man has been jailed for life for the murder of 40-year-old man in a case of mistaken identity.
Jonathan Fitzgerald of South Claughan Road in Garryowen shot dead Noel Crawford in December 2006.
Fitzgerald's co-accused Michael O'Callaghan of Pineview Gardens Moyross, pleaded guilty to manslaughter and was jailed for seven years.
Mr Crawford was shot by the then 17-year-old Fitzgerald, who mistook him for his brother Paul Crawford.
The four-week trial heard Fitzgerald believed Paul Crawford was involved in the kidnapping of his sister.
In a victim impact statement, the victim's mother said she was still haunted by the sight of her son lying dead at her front door on his 40th birthday.
She said to the world he was just another murder victim, but to her he was the world.
Mr Justice Barry White said levels of violence in Limerick had escalated way beyond what they were when it had the misfortune to be known as stab city.
Justice White said deterrent sentences were now needed to reduce gang crime.
