Independent News and Media is pressing to have Associated Newspapers Ireland expelled from the industry representative group National Newspapers Ireland.
Associated Newspapers Ireland publishes the Irish Daily Mail and the Irish Mail On Sunday.
IN&M is to table a motion at a meeting of the NNI next Tuesday to have Associated Newspapers expelled from the group.
INM's move follows the Irish Mail on Sunday's decision to print some of its weekend editions with a coversheet designed to look like the front page of the Sunday Tribune.
IN&M is a 29.9% shareholder in the Sunday Tribune, which is in receivership and did not publish last weekend.
IN&M denounced the Irish Mail on Sunday's move and will now push to have its publishers thrown out of the NNI which represents the interests of the newspaper industry in Ireland.
