Three people have been arrested and guns and explosives have been seized in Co Galway as part of an investigation into dissident republicans.
Officers from the Regional Support Unit began searching lands at Monivea, Co Galway, yesterday and discovered the explosive material in an outbuilding.
Four guns, a hand gun and three shotguns were then discovered in a farm house. A 48-year-old man was arrested there.
In a follow-up search at a house in Tuam, another gun was found and a man and a woman, both aged 40, were arrested.
All three are still being questioned at Galway Garda Station.
The Army bomb disposal team were called in to remove the explosive material and this and the guns have been taken to garda headquarters for forensic examination.
