A man is in a critical condition in hospital after a gun attack in Dublin last night.

The attack happened on the Barry Road in Finglas at about 8.30pm.

Gardaí say a 40-year-old man was standing outside the pub when a dark coloured car, believed to a Volkswagen Estate Car, drove up close to him.

The front seat passenger got out and fired a number of shots hitting the victim in the chest.

The gunman got back into the car, which was driven off in the direction of Barry Avenue.

The wounded man is from the Finglas area.
