A 37-year-old man has been jailed for a minimum of seven-and-a-half years for killing two young jockeys when he torched a block of flats in a drunken revenge attack in north Yorkshire.

At Leeds Crown Court this afternoon Peter William Brown was found guilty in May of the manslaughter of 18-year-old Jamie Kyne from Claregalway, Co Galway, and 19-year-old Jan Wilson from Scotland.

Brown was found not guilty of murder and not guilty of arson.

Sentencing was deferred to today pending reports.

The two apprentice jockeys died in a fire in the block of flats they were staying at in Norton, North Yorkshire, in the early hours of 5 September last year.

Prosecutors claimed at the trial that Peter Brown had lit rubbish in the communal entrance to the block.

Brown, who is from Scotland, had been a former caretaker at the complex, which is home to a number of people working in the local racing industry.
