Garda Commissioner Fachtna Murphy has asked a senior officer to contact the chairman and chief executive of the National Asset Management Agency following a complaint from a Fianna Fáil backbencher.

Cork South Central TD Michael McGrath had written to the Commissioner and the Financial Regulator, Matthew Elderfield, after NAMA representatives suggested to the Oireachtas Finance Committee that the banks had supplied misleading information about the quality of their loan book.

Deputy McGrath said there was an onus on NAMA to make the full information at their disposal available to the authorities.
