The house at Hazel Grove in Newcastle West, Co Limerick, in which the bodies of four people were found yesterday remains sealed off.
State Pathologist Dr Marie Cassidy has carried out a preliminary examination at the murder scene.
She is working with technical gardaí who have been at the scene since this morning.
The bodies of the four victims were removed from the house and taken to the Mid-Western Regional Hospital for post mortem examinations.
Prayers were said at church in Newcastle West this morning for the victims who have been named locally.
They were 25-year-old Sarah Hines and her two children; Reece, aged three, and five-month-old Amy.
The fourth victim was 20-year-old Alicia Brough, a friend of Ms Hines, who was from Rockchapel, Co Cork.
The 31-year-old man arrested in Kilkee yesterday in connection with the murders has had his period of detention suspended. Questioning will resume after he has received medical attention.
Gardaí are appealing for information, particularly from anyone who may have seen anything suspicious at or near the house in the past two days.
