Two men in their 20s remain in Garda custody following an attempted raid on an ATM in Co Kerry yesterday.
A third man - a 45-year-old from Co Fermanagh - was released without charge and a file is being sent to the DPP.
Gardaí said yesterday they suspected that the raid on an ATM at Castleisland was connected in some way to an organised criminal gang operating on both sides of the border.
The gang was forced to flee yesterday when they failed to lift the ATM onto their getaway pick-up truck.
As they fled, two men were arrested following a 10-kilometre chase and a violent struggle.
A third was arrested near Tralee half an hour later. All three are from the North.
There have been around 20 smash and grab ATM raids in the Republic over the past two years alone.
