Two men have been jailed for five and four years respectively for their part in the unlawful killing of a 26-year-old teacher in Ennis last December.

Harry Dinan, 29, of Waterpark Heights in Ennis and his 23-year-old nephew Kevin Dinan of Clarehill, Clarecastle, pleaded guilty to the unlawful killing of Brian Casey from Lisseycasey in Co Clare.

Mr Casey died from head injuries he received during a fight on O'Connell Square in Ennis on 26 December last year.

Ennis Circuit Court heard today that he was punched in the face by Harry Dinan in an unprovoked attack and he fell to the ground hitting his head off the pavement.

Kevin Dinan struck Mr Casey in the face and head as he lay unconscious on the ground.

Harry Dinan, who has 64 previous convictions and who was on temporary release from prison at the time of the incident, was given a five-year prison sentence.

Kevin Dinan, who has 17 previous convictions and who was on bail at the time of the offence, was given four years in prison.
