The UN Secretary General has warned Europeans of the dangers of scape-goating ethnic minorities.
Speaking in Strasbourg this afternoon, Ban Ki-moon urged governments not to give in to 'the siren songs of suspicion'.
He warned that populists trying to find someone to blame for the 'economic hard times' would blow Europe off-course from the values it holds dear.
His remarks are being seen by many as criticism of the handling of minorities by France and Germany.
German Chancellor Angela Merkel recently claimed the German model of integration had failed, with the leader of her Bavarian sister party claiming Germany needed no more immigration from Turkey and Arab countries.
France has also come under fire for its expulsion of Roma.
