A 44-year-old man has been charged in connection with an incident at a takeaway restaurant in Cork city last night.

Kiyasettin Gungor, a Turkisk national, was charged with criminal damage at the Istanbul Restaurant on Oliver Plunkett Street in the city centre following an incident that lasted for over three hours.

Garda Inspector Billy Dwane told Cork District Court that gardaí had no objection to bail as long as Mr Gungor stayed away from three Istanbul Restaurants in Cork and Waterford.

The restaurants in question are on Oliver Plunkett Street and Washington Street in Cork, as well on John Street in Waterford.

The court was told that gardaí would also require him to reside at addresses on either Washington Court in Cork or John's Avenue in Waterford.

Judge Leo Malone granted the application and released Mr Gungor on his own bail of €100 to appear again before the District Court on 7 October for directions from the Director of Public Prosecutions.
