Gardaí investigating the murder of taxi driver Michael Healy in Cork have arrested a 38-year-old man for questioning.

The man was arrested in Passage West in Co Cork.

He was taken to Mayfield Garda Station in Cork city where he is being detained under section four of the Criminal Justice Act.

Mr Healy, a 62-year-old father of two sons, lived at a flat at Rockspring Terrace, St Luke's in Cork city for the past ten years.

His body was found at his home by his brother yesterday morning after he became concerned when Mr Healy had not been seen for a number of days.

A post mortem examination last night established that Mr Healy had died of head injuries.

Gardaí today conducted a technical examination at Mr Healy's flat.

They removed several items, including his refuse bins, and detectives are carrying out house-to-house enquiries and were distributing questionnaires.

They are anxious to establish what he was doing and where he was over the past week.

Mr Healy worked for more than 20 years as a taxi driver in Cork city and was well-known and popular in the business.

Several different lines of enquiry are now being pursued as part of the murder investigation.

Scientists from the Garda Technical Bureau will take blood and other samples for analysis from Mr Healy's flat, while teams of gardaí are continuing their search for the murder weapon.
