A man's body has been discovered in a flat in the St Luke's area of Cork city.
The body of 62-year-old Michael Healy was discovered by his brother, who went to the flat at Rockspring Terrace this morning.
It is understood Mr Healy had not been seen since Saturday night.
Gardaí have sealed off the flat and a technical examination is under way.
State Pathologist Dr Marie Cassidy has also conducted a preliminary examination at the flat. It is understood Mr Healy had suffered head injuries.
The body has been removed to Cork University Hospital for a post mortem examination.
Mr Healy was a taxi driver with a grown-up family and was originally from Mayfield in Cork.
Gardaí have set up an incident room at Mayfield Garda Station.
They are appealing to people who saw anything suspicious in the St Luke's area and to people who knew Mr Healy to contact them.
