Gardaí have appealed for information after a 41-year-old man was injured in a shooting at a pub in Bettystown, Co Meath, last night.

Two armed and masked gunmen entered McDonough's pub in Bettystown at around 9.40pm.

They opened fire on the victim, who was socialising in the pub.

It is believed they fired at least eight shots, with two hitting the victim, before escaping on foot.

He was taken to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda and has since been transferred to the Mater Hospital in Dublin. His condition is described as stable.

The area around the pub has been sealed off for a technical examination.

It is believed the shooting is linked to an ongoing Dublin gang feud.

Gardaí have appealed for anyone with information to come forward in the strictest confidence.

They also want to speak to anyone who was in the vicinity of McDonough's pub or in Bettystown and saw anything unusual last night.

The two men are believed to be between 5'7"-5'10". One had a thin build and the other had a heavy build and both were wearing hooded tops.
