Model and former Miss Ireland Andrea Roche has settled a libel action against two newspapers over articles published four years ago.
An apology was read in the High Court to Ms Roche and Margaret Humphries who took the action over three articles published in the Irish Daily Mail and one in Ireland on Sunday in June and July 2006.
The court was told that the articles made allegations about Ms Roche and Ms Humphries as organisers of the Miss Ireland competition between 2003 and 2006.
Senior Counsel Eoin McCullough said the newspapers fully accept that the competition is organised and run to the highest standards of professionalism and propriety and that Ms Humphries and Ms Roche are persons of integrity and honesty.
The newspapers 'unreservedly' apologised for the distress, embarrassment and damage caused by the articles.
The details of the settlement were not disclosed. Afterwards Andrea Roche said she was 'just happy' her good name and reputation had been vindicated.
