The Garda Síochána Ombudsman Commission has begun an investigation after gardaí shot and seriously wounded a man in Cork city.
The incident happened at the Mo Chuisle pub on Blarney Street yesterday evening.
The man is believed to have been carrying a loaded shotgun.
It is understood he was shot once in the stomach by a member of the Regional Response Unit after he failed to drop the weapon.
He was taken to Cork University Hospital, where his condition is described as serious but stable.
