Police in Northern Ireland say the man killed in West Belfast early this morning was the victim of a ‘very brutal attack’.

Seamus Fox, 58, came from Horn Drive in Lenadoon, not far from the spot where he died.

He was discovered with serious head injuries at around 2am this morning on waste ground at Woodbourne Crescent, behind Woodbourne Police Station.

Emergency services arrived within minutes but he died at the scene.

Police have been studying pictures from CCTV cameras outside the base. A forensic examination has been carried out and investigators also looked at debris from a nearby park.

This afternoon, the PSNI arrested an 18 year-old man in the Antrim town area and he is now being questioned.

Detective Chief Inspector Debbie McMaster appealed to the local community to come forward and assist them with their investigation.

Sinn Féin President Gerry Adams has expressed his shock at the murder.

'This vicious, brutal murder has shocked the local community in Lenadoon and Blacks Road,' he said.

'I want to extend my deepest sympathy to the family of the murdered man and to urge anyone with information to bring it to the PSNI.'
