Homes threatened overnight by Kerry wildfire

Kerry County Council has appealed to the public to report any deliberate instances of setting wildfires to the gardaí.

The call comes after four homes were threatened by a gorse fire that burnt for over seven hours last night.

The extensive fire broke out on commonage at Glenfisk, near Killarney, with fire crews travelling from Killarney, Tralee and Kenmare to fight the blaze.

It was the third serious wildfire in the county this week.

On Monday, a gorse fire caused widespread destruction of young deer and nesting birds when it came within 2m of a major forest in Killarney National Park.
