Midleton - Murder investigation
Midleton - Murder investigation

A man in his 40s, arrested in connection with the death of Catherine Smart in Midleton, Co Cork, has been released without charge.

The body of Ms Smart was found after gardaí were called to her home in Bailick Court on Sunday morning.

State Pathologist Dr Marie Cassidy conducted the post-mortem examination on the body of Ms Smart at Cork University Hospital on Sunday night.

For operational reasons the results of the examination have not been released.

However, it is understood Ms Smart died of head injuries and detectives are satisfied at this stage that she more than likely sustained those injuries as a result of an assault rather than a fall.

A file is being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.
