Minister of State for Equality and Integration Mary White expressed sadness at the fatal stabbing of a 15-year-old boy in Dublin.
Two men in their 20s have been arrested following the death of Toyosi Shittabey in Tyrrelstown.
He was stabbed just after 8pm yesterday evening. He was rushed to Connolly Hospital Blanchardstown but was pronounced dead a short time later.
Toyosi was one of six children and moved here with his family from Nigeria 11 years ago.
A footballer for Shelbourne FC under-15s, he was a third year pupil at Hartstown Community School.
Gardaí have launched a murder investigation, but have have not yet recovered the weapon used in the stabbing.
The scene has been sealed off pending a forensic examination, and a post mortem is expected to take place today.
Tyrrelstown is between the Navan Road and the Ashbourne Road, close to the county boundary with Meath.
Gardaí say they are concerned about tensions in the area and an official from the Garda Racial and Intercultural Office is working in the locality.
In a statement tonight, Mary White said she regretted the attack on a ‘a member of one of our new communities and wish to extend my deepest sympathies to the Shittabey family’
Ms White called on the public to assist gardaí with their investigation.
Gardaí are appealing for anyone with information or any witnesses to contact them at Blanchardstown Garda Station at 6667000. They want to talk to anyone who saw a black Nissan Qasqai around Mount Garrett Rise and Boulevard Mount Eustace last night.
