A judge at the Central Criminal Court has described aspects of the rape of a nine-year-old girl as 'one of the most repulsive' he had in encountered in 18 years on the bench.
Mr Justice Paul Carney was speaking during the sentence hearing of a 62-year-old Dublin criminal who was convicted of raping the girl three times 16 years ago.
Stephen 'Rossi' Walsh, of Belgrave Road, Rathgar, and previously from Ringsend was convicted by a jury last December of raping the girl on two occasions at a beach in Dublin and orally raping her at a house.
His trial was told that he threatened his victim that he 'would get her mam and dad' if she told anyone.
The now 25-year-old victim said the effect of the rapes would never go away.
She said she had been severely affected by the abuse and had suffered anxiety and post traumatic stress.
She said had come forward and endured cross-examination at the trial for the sake of her family and other children.
Mr Justice Carney said the evidence on the oral rape of the girl was one of the most repulsive he has encountered. He will pass sentence on Friday.
