Former world boxing champion Eamonn Magee has been sentenced to six months in prison after being convicted of head-butting a man in a Belfast social club.

The judge told Magee, 38, that he was a violent man who lacked any credit.

Magee, who was known as the 'Terminator' during his professional boxing career, previously won the WBU welterweight title.

He was found guilty of head-butting Kevin McLaughlin after being asked to leave the Ardoyne Kickhams GAC club.

The court heard the victim was left stunned and suffered a bloodied nose.

Magee, who denied the charge, claimed he was attacked by up to 15 people after being confronted at the club from which he was barred.

Magee was released on bail pending an appeal.
