A 48-year-old Romanian man has appeared in court in Dún Laoghaire charged with the murder of a nurse in Dublin last week.

Mihalache Marian, with an address in Romania, was remanded in custody to Cloverhill Prison and will appear in court again next week.

The body of 35-year-old Romanian nurse Loradena Pricajan was found stabbed to death in an apartment at the Irish Management Institute in Sandyford last Thursday morning.

This morning, 48-year-old Mihalache Marian was brought before Dún Laoghaire District Court charged with her murder.

Detective Sergeant Eugene Stapleton of Dundrum Garda Station said he arrested the accused at 8.58pm last night and he was charged a half hour later.

The court was told that when charged, Mr Marian replied: 'I did not kill Loradena Pricajan and I have nothing else to say.'

Mr Marian's solicitor, Kevin Tunney, requested that his client be granted free legal aid, including the use of an interpreter.

Detective Inspector Martin Cummins said there was no objection to this due to the seriousness of the charge.

Judge Anne Ryan also ordered that the accused get the necessary medical treatment and that a psychiatric assessment be carried out.
