A large congregation attended mass this morning for Cardinal Cahal Daly in St Patrick's Cathedral in Armagh.
The Cardinal's remains lay in state in the Cathedral and a steady stream of people paid their respects to their former archbishop.
Some travelled from as far away as Westmeath to convey their condolences in person.
The Office for the Dead was sung for Cardinal Daly by the choir of the nearby parish of St Malachy's.
Monsignor Liam McEntaggart told the congregation that when the history of peace making in Ireland comes to be written, the contribution of Cardinal Daly will be accorded a high place.
Cardinal Seán Brady will be the celebrant at Requiem Mass at noon tomorrow.
The Cardinal will then be buried in the Cathedral grounds next to his three immediate predecessors.
