A murder investigation has been launched following the death of a man who was assaulted in Ennis on St Stephen's night.
Brian Casey, 26, from Lisseycasey in Co Clare, was assaulted in an area at the junction of O'Connell Street, Abbey Street and Bank Place in the town.
A post mortem examination will be carried out tomorrow to establish the exact cause of death.
Meanwhile two men have appeared in court charged with the assault on Mr Casey.
Harry Dinan, 29, of Willowpark Heights in Ennis, and his nephew Kevin Dinan, 22, of Clarehills in Clarecastle, were both charged with assault causing harm to Mr Casey in Ennis on 26 December.
Both have been remanded in custody.
