A former prison officer is to be sentenced next Monday on charges of bringing heroin, cocaine, alcohol and mobile phones to inmates in Mountjoy Prison.
Dillon O'Brien, 37, from Charnwood Meadows in Clonsilla in Dublin 15, pleaded guilty to six charges at the Dublin Circuit Criminal Court, including a charge of possessing cocaine at his home.
One of the prisoners supplied with drugs and a phone, as well as the prisoner's brother will also be sentenced on Monday.
The court heard that Dillon O'Brien, a father of three young children, was addicted to cocaine and steroids.
He became involved in smuggling phones, alcohol and drugs to inmates in Mountjoy over a two year period in order to feed his habit.
He received small amounts of cocaine or money in return.
The court heard before his arrest, O'Brien had been highly regarded in the prison service and was a class officer in charge of a landing in Mountjoy.
When he was arrested in March 2007, he told gardaí that he was relieved as he felt he had been leading a double life.
One of the prisoners, supplied with a phone and drugs by O'Brien was 30-year-old Thomas Hinchon, who is serving a life sentence for murder.
He pleaded guilty to possession of a mobile phone and conspiring to convey cannabis into Mountjoy.
A charge of possessing heroin is also to be taken into account.
His brother, 32-year-old Sean Hinchon from St Ronan's Close in Clondalkin, pleaded guilty to conspiring to convey a mobile phone and heroin to his brother.
The court heard he became involved out of loyalty to his brother.
All three will be sentenced on Monday.
