An estimated 10,000 people gathered at Knock shrine in Co Mayo in the hope of witnessing a new apparition of Our Lady.
The turnout followed claims by two Dublin based spiritual healers that they have received messages from Our Lady saying she would appear in Knock today.
Joe Coleman and Keith Henderson have claimed that a number of apparitions have taken place around the country in recent weeks.
Many people have also claimed they have seen the sun dancing in the sky and changing colour on a number of these occasions including today.
However, the Archbishop of Tuam, Dr Michael Neary, has not shifted from his recent statement in relation to these alleged happenings.
He said they were not healthy, did not give glory to God and it was not good witness to the faith to be looking for what he called ‘extraordinary phenomena’.
Dr Neary said the Knock apparition in 1879 was neither sought nor expected by the humble, honest people who were its astonished witnesses.
The Archbishop said events like this were bringing Knock into disrepute.
Mr Coleman left the shrine saying Our Lady had appeared in the Basilica but that he was not prepared to reveal her message just yet.
