A 28-year-old man has been granted bail by a court in Australia after he was charged with the manslaughter of Irishman Gearoid Walsh in Sydney.

Tobias Liam Simmons, from Clovelly in the city, appeared in court via video link this morning.

The 23-year-old from Dublin sustained head injuries after he was assaulted during a row in the Sydney suburb of Coogee on Sunday.

He died in hospital on Thursday.

Mr Simmons has been charged with manslaughter, reckless wounding and assault.

He is expected to appear in court again next month.
