A search is on-going for an armed gang who forced a bank official to hand over an estimated €300,000 after they took her family hostage in Dublin.

At about 1am yesterday morning, a number of armed and masked men forced their way into a house in Johnsbridge Estate in Lucan.

A husband and wife and their two children, a boy aged six and a girl aged three, were held hostage.

At about 6am the husband and the two children were taken from the house. They were driven away in a blue Opel van (registration 07 D 69990).

The woman drove to work at a Bank of Ireland branch in Inchicore in a black Toyota Rav 4.

She left the bank around midday with a quantity of cash. She left her car, containing the cash, at Liffey Gael’s GAA Club in Inchicore.

The alarm was then raised.

Her husband and two children were found unharmed at Toughers Industrial Estate in Co Kildare, where they had been held in a van.

A silver VW Passat (99D 60718) belonging to the family was taken from their house in Lucan and has not yet been located.

Anyone with information about this car is asked to contact gardaí at Lucan Garda Station on 01-6667332 or the Garda Confidential Line 1800-666111.
