A 36-year-old man has appeared before Dublin District Court charged with the murders of two women at their home in Grangegorman, Dublin, 12 years ago.

Sylvia Shields and Mary Callinan were stabbed to death as they slept in sheltered accommodation in March 1997.

Mark Nash, who is originally from Huddersfield in the UK, was charged at the Bridewell Garda Station earlier this morning.

Superintendent Padraig Kennedy told the court that when he charged Mr Nash he had nothing to say.

Mr Nash has been remanded in custody to appear at Cloverhill District Court next on Friday at 10.30pm.
