Radical reform of the Programme for Government is needed if Green Party members are to support continued coalition with Fianna Fáil, a Green Party TD has said.
Speaking on RTÉ Radio’s Morning Ireland, Ciarán Cuffe said that if the Green Party did not get a clear result on the issue of political expenses then he did not know whether a fresh deal with Fianna Fáil was possible.
Mr Cuffe also said a complete overhaul of the expenses system was needed.
Asked if this was a bottom line for the party, he said he believed it was.
Mr Cuffe said it was unsustainable for Ceann Comhairle John O'Donoghue to remain in office.
He said that political expenses needed to be reduced and that the Freedom of Information Act should apply to ministerial expenses.
Mr Cuffe added that it would be ‘some irony’ if Green Party members brought down the Government this weekend and therefore awarded Mr O'Donoghue a renewed lease of life.
