A member of the board of FÁS has said he believes the board would be vindicated in time, following the controversy over financial controls and expenses at the State training agency.

Niall Saul, chairman of the board's audit committee, was speaking on Today with Pat Kenny, a day after the board confirmed its intension to stand down after new legislation is introduced.

Mr Saul also said he believed former Director General of FÁS Rody Molloy believed the company car, an Audi, was his when he left the agency with a top-up on pension and severance payments last November.

Meanwhile, Public Accounts Committee chairman Bernard Allen has said he was surprised to learn that Mr Molloy was allowed to keep his company car.

On Morning Ireland, Mr Allen said he was gobsmacked at the news.

Mr Allen said it sounded as though Mr Molloy had won Winning Streak.

A spokesperson for Tánaiste Mary Coughlan has said information about the car was in the public domain in February and that Bernard Allen knew about it.
